Waterford Vikings U17 Boys capped off a remarkable week with a deserved 58–45 victory over Kilkenny Stars in the Cup Final.
Vikings made a great start to the game ending quarter 1 with a 17–4 lead. Kilkenny Stars responded well in the second quarter, settling into the game and narrowing the gap with Waterford Vikings holding a 28–21 lead at half time. The third quarter proved decisive. Waterford Vikings reasserted their dominance and by the end of the third period they had built a 47–33 advantage.
In the final quarter, Stars pushed hard to get back into contention, but Vikings remained composed. Strong defensive stops and controlled possession ensured they protected their lead and closed out the game comfortably, securing a 58–45 win and lifting the cup.
The victory was made even more impressive given the context of the week. Just two days earlier, the club’s U18 team had also claimed Cup glory, with several players featuring in both finals. Their ability to perform at such a high level across two finals in such a short period highlighted the depth, determination, and commitment within the squad.
Well done to the players, Coaches Dean Kavanagh and Greg Tuohy, and Manager Ann Kavanagh
